Picking An Object From The Ground: Place the object in front of him, slightly above the level of his head, so that he can seize it in one or two steps on hearing the command ‘fetch.’ Gradually lower the article till he picks from ground, keep on increasing the distance too. This will teach him to pick the object dropped in front of him. Bringing Back The Tossed Object: Initially toss the object at a distance and walk with the dog the entire distance back and forth, applying pressure to ear to pick it up and walk back. He must hold the object and drop only on command ‘give.’
Holding objects softly in the Mouth: A dog with hard mouth holds the object tightly and leaves bite marks. Put some small nails on the object, dogs dislike the touch of metal on their teeth. This will teach him soft mouthing on usual articles as well. With some time, patience and lots of love from the trainer, the dog gradually learns many commands. Be firm and persistent while teaching. Most important, pet him and praise him when he accomplishes a task. Career in Dog Training A career in dog training can be very rewarding. Almost everyone loves dogs and the number of people who own dogs is increasing. There are basically two types of dog training careers available. They are divided up into pet and service dog training. Both are in demand however there are far more opportunities in pet dog training. A career in dog training requires much more than a love of dogs. You also must love people as well as they are the ones you will be training as much as their dog. So many people who love dogs really cannot deal with all the different personalities of there owners and as such quickly become disillusioned. The bottom line is that a career in dog training is also a career in people training. You may want to consider a career in dog training with professional service dogs. Every one has seen police dogs chasing criminals as well as observed bomb or drug sniffing dogs at the local airport. These specialized service dogs require intense training and testing prior to being deployed to the job.
